The History of Dutch pirates, who had stolen the idol of Lord Arumuga:
It is said that the Dutch pirates who looted this temple during the 17th century had broken the granite statues and carried the Panchaloka idol of Arumuga Peruman to their ship. Suddenly, there was heavy storm and rain.
Art-1 Filled with fear of this sudden development, they tied a rope to the idol and dropped it in the sea. The storm was said to have stopped immediately. Art-7
On finding the idol of Arumugha Nayanar missing from the temple, the devotees grew worried. Lord Muruga appeared in the dream of Vadamalaiyappa Pillai, who was an ardent devotee of the Lord and showed the place in the sea where he was lying.
Art Immediately, Vadamalaiyappa Pillai rushed to the spot with some people and saw a lemon was floating on the waters. Garuda, the holy eagle was flying over the spot. They dived into the waters and recovered the idol. Art-8
This incident took place on Friday, the 29th day of the Thai month in Kollam year 829, that is, in 1653 A.D. This fact is taken from the inscriptions.

Once a demon imprisoned Nakkirar. He invoked Senthilandavar and sang, ''I trust nobody except you''. He became a free man by the blessings of Lord Senthilandavar.
Seating of Arumuga Nayanar in Vadamalaiyappan Mandapam
During the seventh day festivals of Masi and Avani months it is customary for Arumuga Nayanar to start from the temple and halt at Vadamaliyappan Mandapam. Once attempts were made to seat him at Katta Bomman Mandapam and they turned futile due to strong rain, thunder and lightning. This shows the grace of the God.
Sacred Ash Becomes the Salary
About 300 years back, Desikamoorthy Swami of Thiruvaduthurai Aadeenam was engaged in the construction of the temple's Mela Gopuram. He did not have sufficient funds to pay the wages of the workers. So he gave a packet of sacred ash as salary to the workers every day. It is said that these packets contained exactly the salary that each worker deserved when they opened their hands after crossing Thoondu Kai Vinayakar shrine as instructed by the Swami.
